How reasonable is it to increase the age limit for entry into government jobs in Bangladesh?

 In British India in 1895, the minimum age limit for appearing in the Indian Civil Service (ICS) examination was fixed at 21 years.  And the maximum age limit was 23 years.  The maximum age limit in Bangladesh has increased and now stands at 30 years.  But in case of quota candidates it is more by two years i.e. 32 years.

 Now there is a demand to increase the age limit for entry into the job to 35.  A few hundred young people last Monday in this demand, the chief adviser of the interim government.  The State Guest House, used as the official residence of Muhammad Yunus, took up position in front of the Yamuna.  The government has also constituted a committee to review the matter.

 The question has been raised, whether it is reasonable to make the age limit for entry into government service 35 years or not.  Prothom Alo spoke to a retired professor of public administration, a former secretary specializing in public administration and an expert in public service law.  Both of them say there is no justification for doing 35 years.  One said, the age of entry into permanent service cannot be increased to 35 years.  However, a temporary exemption may be granted.

 The general age limit for entry into government jobs in India is 32 years.  In Pakistan, however, it is 30 years. 

 Some experts also say that the age limit for entering government jobs can be increased from 35 years to 32 years.  In this case, the gap between the children of freedom fighters and ordinary job aspirants can be bridged.  General upper age limit for recruitment to BCS cadre and non-cadre posts in Bangladesh is 30 years.  It is 32 years for the children of the brave freedom fighters.

 The general age limit for entry into government jobs in India is 32 years.  In Pakistan, however, it is 30 years.  Experts are also emphasizing on increasing employment so that the youth does not remain unemployed.

 Abdul Mueed Chowdhury, head of the committee formed to review the demand for increasing the age limit for entering government jobs, said in the secretariat on Wednesday that there is a rationale for the demand for increasing the age limit for entering the service.  Referring to various countries, he said that the current age should be increased.  But how much it is reasonable to do will be considered in the light of the overall situation.

 Generally, the maximum age for entry into government service is 30, but there are different age limits for different posts in different government offices, directorates, statutory bodies.  These posts are non-cadre.  Candidates can apply for higher posts in the university, doctor appointments, even at older age.

কিছু বিশেষজ্ঞ আরও বলেন, সরকারি চাকরিতে প্রবেশের বয়সসীমা 35 বছর থেকে 32 বছর পর্যন্ত বাড়ানো যেতে পারে। এমতাবস্থায়মুক্তিযােদ্ধাওসাধারণচাকুরীপ্রত্যাশীদেরসন্তানেরমধ্যেব্যবধানেরব্যবধানসংহতহতেপারে। বাংলাদেশে বিসিএস ক্যাডার ও নন ক্যাডার পদে নিয়োগের সাধারণ উচ্চ বয়সসীমা ৩০ বছর। সাহসী মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সন্তানদের জন্য এটি 32 বছর।
ভারতে সরকারি চাকরিতে প্রবেশের সাধারণ বয়সসীমা 32 বছর। পাকিস্তানে অবশ্য ৩০ বছর। যুবকরা যাতে বেকার না থাকে সেজন্য কর্মসংস্থান বৃদ্ধির উপর বিশেষজ্ঞরাও জোর দিচ্ছেন।
সরকারি চাকরিতে প্রবেশের বয়সসীমা বৃদ্ধির দাবি পর্যালোচনা করতে গঠিত কমিটির প্রধান আব্দুল মুeedদ চৌধুরী বুধবার সচিবালয়ে বলেন, চাকরিতে প্রবেশের বয়সসীমা বাড়ানোর দাবিতে যৌক্তিকতা রয়েছে। বিভিন্ন দেশের কথা উল্লেখ করে তিনি বলেন, বর্তমান বয়স বাড়ানো উচিত। কিন্তু কতটা যুক্তিসঙ্গত তা সামগ্রিক পরিস্থিতির আলোকে বিবেচনা করা হবে।
সাধারণত, সরকারি চাকরিতে প্রবেশের সর্বোচ্চ বয়স 30, কিন্তু বিভিন্ন সরকারি অফিস, অধিদপ্তর, সংবিধিবদ্ধ সংস্থাগুলিতে বিভিন্ন পদের জন্য বিভিন্ন বয়সের সীমা রয়েছে। এই পোস্টগুলি নন-ক্যাডার। প্রার্থীরা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে উচ্চতর পদ, ডাক্তার নিয়োগের জন্য আবেদন করতে পারেন, এমনকি বয়স্ক বয়সেও।
